Custom workstream: application migration method
This page describes how we structure programming consulting for cloud moves. It is the operational backbone behind our services—not a generic IT checklist.
1. Estate framing
We catalog deployable units (services, workers, schedulers) with their configuration sources, secret dependencies, and outbound integrations. The goal is a migration graph: what must move together, what can lag, and which endpoints are compatibility-sensitive.
2. Target pattern selection
For each unit we choose a target shape—lift-and-refactor, strangler facade, or replace-with-adapter—based on test coverage and business risk, not slogans. We document rejected options so stakeholders see why a rewrite was or was not chosen.
3. Parallel validation environments
Before production touch, we stand validation paths that mirror message shapes and auth flows. Contract tests run against both sides of a strangle boundary so regressions surface during development, not on cutover night.
4. Progressive exposure
Traffic moves in measurable steps: internal dogfood, shadow comparison, partial production share, then full DNS or routing switch. Application code owns rollback switches; infrastructure toggles alone are insufficient.
5. Operability handoff
Dashboards, alert routes, and runbooks are updated in the same merge windows as migration code. We pair with your on-call leads so paging policies match the new runtime.
